Her voice is huge and warm–on par with and perhaps surpassing Flagstad in the latter observation–and her instinctively apt phrasing and general musicality give her characterization more humanity than any I can recall.īecause the voice was so grand and easily produced she sounds conversational, and when needed, vulnerable in intimate moments–the interview with Waltraute (here an equally excellent Kerstin Thorberg) and “War es so schämlich…” with Friedrich Schorr, from a 1927, Leo Blech-led Walküre.
